Docksiders Gymnastics Signs 3 for Full Rides to D1 Universities!
Docksiders Gymnastics is proud to announce the signing of 3 of our Level 10 gymnasts to Top Universities. On Wednesday November 10th, Alexis Gross, Brianna Guy and Krystal Welsh all signed their National Letters of Intent for full scholarships to the Universities they committed to last year.
Alexis Gross, a senior at Archbishop Spalding High School has signed with University of Kentucky and is anxious to jump into action on their Wildcats team in the fall of 2011. Early on in the recruiting process, Alexis visited Ohio State where her dad is from and then visited both Auburn University and University of Kentucky. Kentucky seemed to fit perfect from the get go and when the coach called to offer her a Full Ride, she did not wait long to accept. As soon as she stepped foot off the plane in Kentucky for her unofficial visit, it already felt like it was a place she could live and enjoy 4 years of college. The surroundings were much different than Maryland, where Alexis has lived all her life, and that held appeal. She immediately loved all the team girls and knew she could make a huge impact on the team. Alexis is a 5 time Level 10 State and Regional qualifier and a 2 time National Competitor, with her top All-Around finish of 17th in 2010. She was the Level 10 State Floor Exercise Champion in 2009 and has earned several champion titles from invitational competitions across the country. Alexis will head off to Kentucky in August to work on her studies, gymnastics and her southern accent! She will be super busy till then enjoying all that her senior year has to offer, while keeping her sights set on an awesome Kentucky future!
By the beginning of her junior year at Indian Creek Upper School, Brianna Guy had narrowed her choices to three schools, University of Florida, University of Alabama and Auburn University. She visited Auburn right at the beginning of her recruiting season and after her visit, the other two were dropped out of the running. Bri and her parents were very impressed with the high academic standards and support that Auburn University offered to their athletes. It seemed that the final pull to Auburn was being able to join her former Docksiders teammate and long time friend Toi Garcia. The team was good fit, the facilities were great and the weather would be warmer than Maryland. The offer was made and Bri made a verbal commitment almost immediately. Brianna has had a very prestigious career at Docksiders being the only gymnast to be a 2 time Junior Olympic National Team Member. She is a 2 time National Floor Exercise Champion and was the National All-Around Champion in 2008. Bri was a member of the 2007 Region 7 All Star Team that competed internationally in Cancun, Mexico, where she won the All-Around and she was also a member of the 2009 Region 7 All Star Team that participated in an international clinic in England. Bri is well-known throughout the gymnastics community for her big skills which always get Big Air. Next year at this time we will be anxiously waiting to see Bri strut her stuff in the famous Auburn colors of orange and blue.
Krystal Welsh was recruited by some top universities right out of the recruiting starting gate. Stanford, Nebraska, LSU, Auburn and Oklahoma, to name a few. The National Honor Society member, who is a senior at Archbishop Spalding High School had only one school she really wanted to visit and that was Penn State University. Penn State offered everything that appealed to Krystal and her family; from the 3 hour distance to home, to the academic standards, to a gymnastics team in the top 12 and one that also boasted a solid men's gymnastics program. Coming from such close knit family, it was extremely important to Krystal to be able to have family in the stands cheering her on during her college career, and going to Penn State would definitely allow her family that opportunity. Krystal is coming up on her 7th year as a Level 10 gymnast at Docksiders Gymnastics. She is a 4 time Junior Olympic National Competitor who was also a National Elite in 2006-2007. Krystal has won many State titles throughout her career and was the State and Regional All-Around Champion in 2007. She was also a part of the Region 7 All Star Team that traveled to England in 2009 along with her teammate Bri. Krystal is looking forward to heading off to PSU for the fall of 2011 but knows she will miss her teammates, coaches and especially the little girls in the gym that she has been coaching over this past year. She has been enthusiastically practicing the cheer you hear around the PSU football stadium... We Are ...Penn State!!!
The addition of these 3 gymnasts to the college scholarship recipients marks numbers 64, 65, and 66 to the impressive resume of Bob Ouellette, Owner and head coach of Docksiders Gymnastics. He enjoys helping in their growing up process, he coaches them well, teaches them life lessons... and just like their parents, he will watch them go off to college in the fall. Hoping and praying that they will find as much success in college as they have built with him and their teammates at Docksiders! Go Docksiders Girls - It's a matter of pride!
