Docksiders Emily Bowen Wins the
2008 Spring Fling Invitational
The
Docksiders Level 7 & 8 Teams traveled to Columbia Gymnastics in
Columbia, Maryland on March 9th to compete in the Spring
Fling Invitational. Docksider Level 8 gymnast Emily Bowen flipped her
way to Champion Status by winning the All-Around with a score 36.075.
This is her first
All-Around win of the season! The Level 8 Team placed
2nd in the team competition and the Level 7 Team placed 3rd
in their division. The gymnasts also walked away with many individual
places at each level of the competition.
In the Level 8 division Emily won two individual events along with the All-Around. She won Vault with an 8.95 and Floor Exercise with a 9.35. She also placed 3rd on Uneven Bars with a strong routine that earned her a 9.175. Her teammate Alex Zois placed 2nd in the All-Around scoring just a few tenths behind Emily with a 36.025. Alex was crowned Balance Beam Champion with a 9.325 for her solid performance. In addition to her Champion Title she placed 2nd on Vault with an 8.850 and 3rd on Floor Exercise with a 9.15. In the same age group Cori McCrary took home two 2nd place awards. Her first came on Balance Beam where she scored 9.25 for a very solid routine. She followed this performance with an equally well-done Floor Exercise routine to earn a 9.15. It was a clean sweep for Docksiders on Floor Exercise with a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place awards going to Emily, Cori, and Alex!
The Docksiders Level 7 team also had several standout performances. Lauren Musselman placed 2nd on Uneven Bars with an 8.80 in the 10 year old age group. Julia Gielen Placed 2nd All-Around in the 12 year old age group with a 36.15, and won Floor Exercise with a score of 9.35. She also placed 2nd on Balance Beam with a 9.15. In this same age group Sarah Taylor took home 2nd place on Vault with a 9.325 and 2nd place on Floor Exercise with a 9.225. In the 13 year old age group Samantha Calderone took 3rd place in the All-Around competition with a 35.30 and also walked away with 3rd place awards for both Uneven Bars, where she scored an 8.80, and Floor Exercise where her routine earned her a 9.25.
