Docksider Gymnast, Toi Garcia Wins the
Christmas on the Chesapeake for 2nd Year!

Docksiders gymnast Toi Garcia put the finishing touches on her return to competition at the Christmas on the Chesapeake Gymnastics meet on Saturday December 15th with a top finish in the All-Around. This is the second year in row that Toi has captured the All-Around title at the Christmas on the Chesapeake, which has been held at the Baltimore Convention Center for the last two years. Toi sustained a nasty injury last January at the Parkette Invitational in Allentown, Pennsylvania which required surgery and a steel rod to repair. Toi certainly proved to all the fans at the meet that she is back to stay, winning the 16 year old age group with a 36.30. The Docksiders Level 10 Team had an awesome showing as well, placing 2nd place in the Team competition.

Toi Garcia, who was hurt less than a year ago while performing an extremely difficult vault, took 1st place honors on that event with a score of 9.25. She won Uneven Bars as well with a 9.225. The All-Around win in her first meet back competing on all four events was the icing on the cake for Toi. Toi is a junior at Severn High School and has been rehabbing her injured leg in hope of attracting the attention of college coaches. Toi could not wait to flip back in to action and she certainly turned many heads.

In the 14 & under age group Docksider Brianna Guy, who is the reigning JO National Floor Champion, was crowned Uneven Bar Champion with a 9.15 and Floor Exercise Champion with the high score of 9.70. Brianna also took a 3rd place finish on Vault with a 9.40. In the same age group, her teammate Krystal Welsh placed 2nd on Floor Exercise with a 9.375 and 3rd on Uneven Bars with a 9.075. Krystal also placed 3rd in the All-Around with a 35.575.

Stephanie Ouellette, competing in the 15 year old age group, placed 3rd on Vault, with a 9.30, Uneven Bars, with a 9.20, and Floor Exercise, with a 9.30. She was able to take 2nd place in the All-Around posting the highest Docksider total with a 36.40. Rachel Fincham took 2nd on both Uneven Bars with a 9.45 and Floor Exercise with a 9.425. She placed 3rd in the All-Around with a 36.325. Docksiders newest Level 10, Chelsea Perna, posted an awesome Vault score in an earlier Level 10 session in the 15 year old age group. Her high score of 9.425 earned her Vault Champion Status. She also placed 2nd on Floor Exercise with a 9.30. Chelsea has just joined the prestigious Docksiders Team, and it appears she fits right in with her Champion attitude and performance.

In the 17 year old Age group Lilly Siems Placed 2nd on Vault with a 9.20 and 3rd in the All-Around with a 35.775. Lilly has verbally committed to compete for Brown University in the fall of 2008.

All of the Levels of the Docksiders Girls Teams competed in this year’s Christmas on the Chesapeake competition, which hosted over 1600 gymnasts from all over the USA. The competition lasted three days and even caught some media attention from CN8.

Docksider Ronni Binstock had a stand out performance in the very first meet of her life. Competing in the 6 year old Level 4 age group, Ronnie earned two Champion titles. She placed 1st on Vault with a 9.20 and 1st on Floor Exercise with an 8.65. Her combined total of 34.175 gave her a 2nd place finish in the All-Around. The medals around her neck were as exciting as the loads of smiles and recognition she received from her friends and family!
