Docksiders Has an Incredible Showing

at Junior Olympic Nationals!!

Docksiders had 7 girls qualify from the Region 7 Championships to compete at the Level 10 Junior Olympic Nationals.  This is the most the team has ever had qualify in one season!  The girls were well prepared and knew what they had to do to be competitive at this prestigious meet.  With a total of 28 routines performed over the weekend from Docksiders, 4 routines each for all 7 girls, there was only 1 fall.  The odds of that are amazing!  By the end of the weekend, Docksiders had earned respect and notoriety of fans and coaches across the United States.  Many college coaches were buzzing about the possibility of recruiting Docksiders gymnasts for their university teams after this incredible performance.  This was the icing on the cake to top off an awesome season for the Docksiders Level 10 Team.

In the Junior B age group Brianna Guy was crowned the National All-Around Champion and has the honor of being Docksiders first ever National All-Around Champion after scoring an incredible score of 38.225.  She also successfully defended her National Floor Exercise title scoring a 9.775 on that event.  She also placed 7th on Vault with a 9.50 and 6th on Uneven Bars with a 9.525.  Brianna was named to the National Team for upcoming season and will attend a special camp at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado this July.  The camp is designed to help the top 4 gymnasts in each age group to continue on the path of gymnastics success.  The camp is run by the National Team Staff.

In the Junior C age group Chelsea Perna had a standout performance scoring her top All-Around score with a 37.75 which tied her for 2nd place overall.  She placed 5th on Vault with a 9.50 and 7th on Uneven Bars with a 9.475.  Alexis Gross, who was competing at her first National competition, recorded her best All-Around score to date with a 37.125.  She was thrilled to hit all four events and score the first 37.00+ All-Around of her career.  The Junior C Team from Region 7 took 3rd place in the Regional Team competition.   Chelsea’s 2nd place finish in the All-Around qualifies her to the National Team with Brianna.  Chelsea will also attend the National Team camp in Colorado.

In the Junior D age group Stephanie Ouellette and Rachel Fincham both shone on their best events.  Stephanie placed 4th on Floor Exercise with her career high of 9.60.  She also took 9th place on Uneven Bars with a 9.525 and 10th place on Balance beam with a 9.40.  Rachel swung her way to a 3rd place finish on Uneven Bars with the high score of 9.60.  Rachel, who is starting her senior year in high school in the fall, has just committed to compete for North Carolina State University starting in the 2009 competitive season with a Full Athletic Scholarship.  Their Region 7 Team placed 3rd overall for their age group.

Toi Garcia, who was competing in the Senior A age group, put together her best meet to date scoring a 37.95 and placing 5th overall.  She also took 2nd place on Floor Exercise.  Toi’s Regional Team took 1st place out of the 8 Regions competing.

Lilly Siems competed in the Senior D age group in her last meet as a Docksider gymnast.  In the fall she will be competing for Brown University’s gymnastics team while studying biological sciences and international relations.  She put together a great performance on 3 events, but a fall on Uneven Bars knocked her out of the top All-Around standings.

Everyone is excited about the season being over and having time to relax and heal nagging injuries.  However, preparation for next season began almost immediately.  Many of the Level 10’s will be making big decisions in the next year about where they will attend college.  The first competition of next season will be in November of 2008.  For more information regarding Docksiders team or other programs offered check out their website at www.docksidersgymnastics.com.
