Docksiders Boasts 2 Regional All-Around Champions  & 7 Girls Qualify to Nationals!!!

 

 

The Docksiders Level 10 Gymnastics Team competed in the 2007 Level 10 Regional Championships which was hosted at the Prince Georges Sports and Learning Complex in Landover, Maryland on April 28th & 29th.  At the conclusion of the competition Docksiders had 2 All-Around Champions and 7 girls who qualified to Junior Olympic Nationals.  This is the most who have ever qualified to the National meet from a Docksiders team, proving this is one of the most successful years in Docksiders history.

 

In the Junior A age group Brianna Guy secured the All-Around title with no problem.  Her overall score of a 37.70 put her easily ahead of the competition and, despite a fall on Balance Beam she was able to walk away with the win.  Bri was also named the 2007 Regional Vault Champion with a score of 9.625 on that event and Regional Floor Exercise Champion with a score of 9.675.  She took fourth place on Uneven Bars with a score of 9.375.  Competing in the same age group Heather Atwood, who is the youngest competitor on the Docksiders Level 10 squad at 13 years old, captured 5th place on Balance Beam with a 9.075.

 

In the Junior B age group Krystal Welsh was flying high after she was awarded the 2007 All-Around Champion title with a 37.60.  Her individual event places included 2nd place on both Uneven Bars, with a 9.425, and Floor Exercise with a 9.50, and 3rd place on both Vault, with a 9.40, and Balance Beam with a 9.275.  Courtney Shelsby took a 3rd place finish in the All-Around with a score of 36.875, and earned 3rd place on Uneven Bars with a 9.40 and 4th place on Balance Beam with a 9.15.  Betsy Zander achieved 5th place All-Around with a 36.30, and also took 6th place on both Uneven Bars with a 9.025 and Balance Beam with a 9.075.  Her incredible Floor exercise routine, to Spirit In the Sky & Bad to the Bone, earned her a 5th place finish with a score of 9.30.  Alexis Gross tied teammate Courtney Shelsby for 3rd place on Uneven Bars with a 9.40.

 

In the Junior C age group Stephanie Ouellette finished up 4th All-Around with a 37.35.  She also captured a 3rd place finish on Balance Beam with a 9.375, 5th place on Uneven Bars with a 9.425, and 6th place on Floor Exercise.  Rachel Fincham placed 5th in the All-Around with a 37.075.  Rachel also vaulted her way into 4th place with a 9.425 and swung her way to a 3rd place finish on Uneven Bars with a 9.575.

 

Placing in the top 7 of each age group qualifies the individual gymnast to the Junior Olympic Nationals, to be held in Mason, Ohio May 18 – 20.  The seven gymnasts to qualify from Docksiders were Brianna Guy, Krystal Welsh, Courtney Shelsby, Betsy Zander, Stephanie Ouellette, and Rachel Fincham.  Alexis Gross was named 2nd alternate in the Junior B age group.  The 2007 trip to Nationals will be Krystal and Rachel’s second time representing Docksiders, Maryland, and Region 7 at this prestigious meet.  This will Stephanie’s third consecutive trip to Nationals.  The other 3 gymnasts will be making their debut appearance at Nationals in Ohio.
