Docksider Betsy Zander Wins All-Around Title
Betsy Zander of Severna Park, Maryland
made a splashy debut at the Greater New York Invitational on December 2nd
by winning the All-Around Title with the score of 36.35 in her first competition
as a Level 10 Gymnast. She also placed 2nd on both Balance Beam,
with a 9.125, and Floor Exercise with a 9.30. She had a
no
fall meet to secure her win. This was the first meet of the season for the
Docksiders Level 10 Team and they had a strong meet to take 2nd place
in the Team competition.
Other competition highlights for the weekend included Heather Atwood’s 2nd place finish in the All-Around in the 12-14 age group with a 35.45 and Sarah Meiklejohn’s 2nd place All-Around finish in the 16 year old age group with a 34.65. Sarah also placed 1st on Floor Exercise with her new floor routine to Huey Lewis with a 9.275 and 3rd on both Uneven Bars, with an 8.25, and on Balance Beam with an 8.775. Rachel Fincham placed 1st on Uneven Bars in the 12-14 year old age group with an awesome routine that earned her a 9.475. Melanie Brother also placed 1st on Uneven Bars in the 16 year old age group with an 8.75. Toi Garcia vaulted her way to Vault Champion status with a dynamic Yurchenko Laid Out Full for a score of 9.60. Brianna Guy took home 2nd place on Uneven Bars with an incredible score of 9.45. Also competing for the team were Alexis Gross and Lilly Siems.
The Docksiders Level 9 Team also competed at the Greater New York Invite on the same day and finished strong taking home the 3rd place trophy. Individual awards for the Docksider team at level 9 went to Kayla Della, who became the Balance Beam Champion with the score of 9.375. Kayla also walked away with 3rd place on Floor Exercise in the 16+ age group with a score of 9.0. Katie Carroll took home 2nd place for Floor Exercise with a score of 9.25 for her dazzling new routine to a Madonna Mix. Monica Durham swung her way to a 2nd place finish on Uneven Bars with an 8.90, and Jenna White took 3rd place on Floor Exercise in the 15 year old age group with a score of 9.15. Completing the team for the Level 9’s were Katie Plummer and Amanda Castle.
The next competition for Docksiders Gymnastics will be the Christmas on the Chesapeake Gymnastics Competition, which will be hosted by Docksiders on December 8-10 at the Baltimore Convention Center. Over 1,500 gymnasts from all over the East Coast will come to Baltimore to compete.
