Docksiders Gymnastics Named Optional

Club of the Year

 

     Docksiders Gymnastics celebrated it's 30th Anniversary with one of it's best seasons ever at the optional levels.  On October 8, 2005, Docksiders was rewarded by being named the Region VII Optional Club of the Year!  Accepting the award for Docksiders owners Bob and Kim Ouellette was coach Jay Barrows.

 

     The Docksiders Level 8 team started the season with only 4 gymnasts.  By the time of the State Championships they had 14, most of whom had moved up from Level 7 in the middle of the season.  Those who remained at Level 7 captured 3rd at the Level 7 State Championships.  They included individual State Champions Rebecca Jones, who won the competition on Vault, Floor, and in the All Around, and Tyler Neiderstadt who won on Vault.

 

     The gymnasts who did move to Level 8 helped to propel the team to the Level 8 Team State Title, and included a team record 7 qualifiers to the Level 8 Regional Championships.  The Level 8 Team included Individual State Champions Caitlin Fleming on Beam, Terris Harrsion on Vault, Bars, and Floor, Shayna Jackson on Vault, and Michelle Patricelli on Vault.

 

     The Docksiders Level 9 Team finished in 2nd place at the Level 9 State Championships.  Two Docksiders were named as Individual State Champions.  Courtney Shelsby and Jenna White both won State Titles on Vault for their respective age groups.  The Docksiders Team also qualified 9 gymnasts to the Level 9 Regional Championships.  At that competition two Docksiders, Courtney Shelsby and Kayla Della, qualified to the Level 9 Eastern National Championships in Sarasota, FL. where they competed against the best Level 9 gymnasts from the Eastern side of the country.  They were joined at the National Championships by their teammate Jenna White who qualified to the meet as an alternate.  At the National Championships Courtney Shelsby was crowned the Eastern National Champion on Vault.  She also placed 4th on Uneven Bars and 8th in the All - Around competition.

 

     The Level 10 Team also placed 2nd at their State Championships, and included 3 Individual State Champions.  Stephanie Ouellette won the competition on Floor and in the All - Around, and Krystal Welsh won on Floor.  The team also qualified 7 girls to the Regional Championships.  At the Regional level Docksiders qualified 5 out of 7 gymnasts to the National Championships.  Rachel Fincham, Toi Garcia, Alexis Greene, Stephanie Ouellette, and Krystal Welsh all represented Docksiders in the Level 10 Junior Olympic National Championships held in Ontario, CA.  Against the top gymnasts in the country Rachel Fincham placed 9th on Bars and Krystal Welsh placed 10th of Floor.

 

     All totaled Docksiders optional teams claimed 15 Individual State Titles.  They had one 1st Place Team, two 2nd Place Teams, and one 3rd Place Team at the Maryland State Championships.  Twenty - three Docksiders gymnasts qualified for the Regional Championships, and seven Docksiders gymnasts qualified for the National Championships.  It is with great pride that Docksiders accepts the award as the 2005 Region VII Optional Club of the Year.
