Docksiders Boys Team Walks Away With Two State All Around Champions!
The Docksiders Gymnastics Boys Team competed at the Maryland State Gymnastics Championships on March 17-18, 2007. The competition was held at Fairland Athletic Complex in Laurel, Maryland. When the competition was over two Docksiders had been named All-Around Champions and several had won Individual Event titles as well. In the Level 7 competition Kevin Strasser posted an awesome score of 55.7 and took the All-Around title for the age 10-11 division. Also at level 7 Zachary Pietsch posted a score of 48.1 and earned the All-Around title for the age 12+ division. The Docksiders Level 7 team also took a 2nd place finish in the Team Competition. Congratulations to all are well deserved!
In the individual competition in the Level 7 age 10-11 division Kevin Strasser was named State Champion on Pommel Horse, Still Rings, Parallel Bars, and High Bar with a host of high scores in the 9s. Kevin scored 9.4s on both Pommel Horse and Parallel Bars and a 9.20 on High Bar. On the Still Rings he posted a personal best of 9.55 with a strong performance. Kevin also placed 2nd on Floor Exercise with a score of 8.85. Sam DeWitt, competing in the same age group as Kevin, vaulted his way to a 3rd place finish with a 9.4 on that event. In the Level 7 age 12+ division Zachary Pietsch was named State Champion on Vault, with a score of 9.45, and on High Bar with a score of 8.1. His teammate Billy Rathell took three State Champion titles. He was named State Champion on Floor Exercise with a score of 8.6, Pommel Horse with a score of 7.3, and Parallel Bars with a score of 7.5. All four boys contributed to the teams 2nd place finish.
In the Level 6 competition Johnny Grail was named State Champion on Parallel Bars with a score of 9.2, and his high-flying High Bar routine earned him a State Title with a score of 9.45. Level 6 Logan Mayette placed 2nd on vault with a score of 9.4. In the Level 5 competition James Callas was named State Champion on Parallel Bars with his dynamic routine which scored a 9.15, and Collin Strickler took a 3rd place finish on Pommel Horse with a score of 9.05.
The Docksiders Level 7 team will be preparing for their Regional Championships, which will be held the weekend of April 14-15 at Penn State University. The Level 5 and 6 Teams will be competing at their Regional Championships at Parkettes Gymnastics in Allentown, Pennsylvania the weekend of April 28-29.
