Docksiders Take 2^nd at State Championships
 

     The Docksiders Level 9 and 10 Teams both took 2^nd place respectively at the Maryland State Gymnastics Championships this past weekend at Elite Gymnastics in Waldorf.  The Level 10 Team was missing one of its top gymnasts, Krystal Welsh, who was out due to an injury she sustained two weeks ago.  They were beat by Hills Gymnastics who scored a 114.675 in the three man team division.  Docksiders was 2^nd with a 110.40 and Marvateens Gymnastics came in 3^rd with a 109.50.  In the Level 9 five man team division the Docksiders team came in 2^nd with a score of 180.90 despite missing scores from one of their top performers, Courtney Shelsby. Courtney unfortunately broke her thumb just last week and was unable to compete.

     In both the Level 9 and 10 competitions Docksiders gymnasts came away with several individual awards.  For the Level 10 team Stephanie Ouellette put together a great meet for the All Around title in the 12-13 year old age group.  She scored a 36.375 to win her age group for the second year in a row.  Stephanie performed an excellent routine on the Uneven Bars to earn a score of 9.55 and the MD State Championship title for the event.  She also placed 2^nd on the Balance Beam with a 9.10.  In the same age group Docksiders team member Rachel Fincham placed 2^nd in the All Around with a 36.225, 2^nd on the Uneven Bars with a 9.35, and 2^nd on the Floor Exercise with a 9.20.  Brianna Guy vaulted herself to an awesome score of 9.45 to earn the title of State Vault Champion.  In the 14 year old age group Toi Garcia took home three state championship titles.  She was named MD State Champion on Vault with a 9.60, MD State Champion on Uneven Bars with a 9.275, and MD State Champion on Floor Exercise with a 9.525.  A miss on Balance Beam cost her the state All Around title, but she still managed to finish 3^rd All Around with a score of 37.125 and was named to the Maryland State Team.  The State Team is composed of the girls with the top six all around scores in the entire competition and to be named to it is a very prestigious honor.  Also competing for the Docksiders team were Hannah Raley and Melanie Brother.  Six out of the seven Level 10 team members qualified for the Regional Championships where they will compete for the chance to qualify to the Level 10 JO National Championships.
 

     In the Level 9 competition Sarah Meiklejohn had an incredible meet performance and took 1^st All Around in the 15 year old age group.  She scored a 9.40 on a solid Balance Beam routine to earn the title of State Beam Champion and she placed 2^nd on Uneven Bars with a 9.05.  Sarah was one of two Docksiders Level 9's named to the Level 9 Maryland State Team.  Also in the 15 year old age group Jenna White took 2^nd place on Floor Exercise with a 9.20.  In the 13 year old age group Betsy Zander won the Uneven Bars title with an awesome score of 9.50.  Alexis Gross, also competing in the 13 year old age group, placed 2^nd on Uneven Bars with a 9.35 and 2^nd on Balance Beam with a 9.225.  Alexis was also named to the Level 9 Maryland State Team.  Heather Atwood took 2^nd All Around in the 12 year old age group with a 35.40 and placed 2^nd on Uneven Bars, with a 9.25, and Floor Exercise with a 9.025.  In the 14 year old age group Katie Carroll took 3^rd All Around with a 35.375.  Katie Also placed 3^rd on Uneven Bars with an 8.50 and 3^rd on Floor Exercise with a 9.15.  Kayla Della, who competed in the 17 year old age group, placed 3^rd on Uneven Bars with an 8.65.  Completing the team was Lilly Siems.  Eight of the ten Docksiders Level 9's qualified for the Regional Championships.

     Both the Level 9 and 10 Teams will have the next few weeks to train for their Regional Championships which are to be held on the first two weekends in April.  All have high hopes of making it to the JO National Championships.  The Level 9 National meet will be held in Tennessee and the Level 10 meet will be in Oklahoma.  For additional Information about Docksiders Gymnastics and its programs please visit the web site at www.docksidersgymnastics.com.
