Docksiders
boys win big at 2006 Maryland State Championships
The boys of Docksiders Gymnastics had
their most successful Maryland State Championship ever this past weekend, bringing
home 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place team banners and individual state championship
titles from every competitive level.
The Level 7 team started off the meet, held March 25 and 26 at Rebounders
Gymnastics in Timonium, by winning the 1st place team award. The Level 6 team
took 2nd place and the Level 4 team finished 3rd. This is the first time three teams have finished in the top three places since the
boys program at Docksiders began competing at state championships seven years
ago, and the coaches couldnt be more pleased with the performance of the young
athletes. This is also the first time that individual gymnasts from Docksiders representing all 5 levels competing at states garnered championship titles.
Level 9 team member Michael Alden became the 2006 state pommel horse champion.
Level 7 competitor John McTammany took the state championship title for parallel
bars. The Level 6 team had two state champions, Miles Metz on pommel horse and
Samuel DeWitt on parallel bars. Level 5 team member Jordan Purdham became this
years high bar champion. Finally, Level 4 team member Christopher Wheatley
became Docksiders most decorated gymnast at states bringing home the all-around
title as well at 1st place finishes on floor, pommel horse, and rings.
Though the boys at Docksiders are basking in the glory of their good showing at
states they are back in the gym this week vigorously training for regional
championships in April. Optional regional championships will be help in
Rochester, NY and compulsory regional championships will be in Philadelphia.
