Our Martial Arts Program

Docksiders is pleased to add Martial Arts to its program.  The Martial Arts program has been in existence for 1 year, and enjoys the enrollment of over twenty students.  Students learn discipline, respect, courteousness, confidence, and integrity.  Currently, there are four styles that are offered at Docksiders:

Tae Kwon DoThe art of kicking and punching. Students are taught traditional forms, sparring, blocks, and wood breaking.

Vee Jitsu Ryu Jiu-Jitsu: The gentle art or the art of falling. Students are taught how to fall properly and how to defend themselves against weapons and assailants. In addition, students are taught how to apply joint locks and throws.

Capoeira Angola: This is the African-Brazilian art of sneakiness. Students are taught how to defend themselves while performing a cartwheel, headstand, or handstand. In addition, students are taught various sweeps and kicks performed on the ground. Capoeira is done to music, thus appearing as a dance while students sing and play instruments. This is a very unique form of Martial Arts.

ArnisThis is the Filipino art of stick fighting. Students are taught how to defend themselves while using sticks.

If you are interested in joining our Martial Arts program at Docksiders, then please give us a call and ask for Professor David Rivera.
